Ostatnia z książek Horsta, które miałam w domu. Chociaż przeczytałam ich całą serię, każda była inna. Jedna jedyna to zagmatwana historia zniknięcia młodej siatkarki i wielość tropów w śledztwie.

Impas w śledztwie bez impasu w lekturze

Młoda siatkarka Kajsa Berg znika w drodze na trening. Zaczynają również znikać osoby z jej bliskiego środowiska, a w grobach znalezionych w lesie odkryto zwłoki dwóch głównych podejrzanych i okaleczonych zwierząt. Staram się prowadzić notatki z kryminałów, ktore czytam, ale tutaj naprawdę się pogubiłam i nie byłam w stanie dojść, kto był głównym winowajcą. Natomiast na tle innych książek Jedną jedyną wyróżnia wolno posuwająca się do przodu akcja i stojące w miejscu śledztwo. Nie ma zwłok zaginionej dziewczyny i nie można wykluczyć żadnego scenariusza. Dodatkowo w wakacje przez Larvik przetacza się fala pożarów. Czy te sprawy coś łączy?

Przyjemna lektura, z zaskakującym dla Horsta, malo ponurym klimatem. Podczas lata panują nieznosne upały, a śledztwo toczy się w tempie letniej sjesty. Dopiero finałowi powieści towarzyszy wielka burza, która oczyści atmosferę i umożliwi nowy początek.

Lubię również fakt, że w każdej książce z serii o Williamie Wistingu mamy wgląd w jakąś drobną część jego prywatnego życia. Tutaj poznajemy kulisy śmierci jego żony Ingrid, gdy nagle wszystko schodzi na dalszy plan.

Powieść na plus, ale nie będę chciała do niej wracać, w przeciwieństwie do Gdy zapada zmrok czy Zamknięte po sezonie. Zabrakło tego odbierajacego dech w piersiach dreszczyku, niepewności, strachu. W świetle letniego dnia potwory nie wydają się takie straszne jak podczas ciemnej norweskiej nocy.

Moja ocena: 6/10.

The last of Horst's books I had at home. Although I've read the entire series, each volume was different. The Only One is a confusing story of the disappearance of a young volleyball player and the multitude of leads in the investigation.

Deadlock in the investigation without a deadlock in reading

Young volleyball player Kajsa Berg disappears on her way to training. People from her close environment are also starting to disappear, and the bodies of two main suspects have been found in the forest along with corpse of mutilated animals. Every time a read a crime novel I try to make notes to follow the plot closely, but this time I got completely lost and couldn't figure out who the main culprit was. On the other hand, compared to other books, The Only One stands out for the slow-moving action and the stagnant investigation. There is no body and no scenario can be ruled out. In addition, during the summer holidays, a wave of fires takes place in Larvik. Wisting begins to wonder - do these things have something in common?

The book makes a pleasant reading, with surprising for Horst, ungloomy atmosphere. The heat is unbearable in the summer, and the investigation continues at the pace of a summer siesta. Only the finale of the novel is accompanied by a great storm that will clear the atmosphere and enable a new beginning.

I also like the fact that in every book in the William Wister series we have a glimpse into some small part of his private life. Here we get to know the backstage of his wife Ingrid's death, when suddenly everything falls into lesser importance.

The novel is fine, but I will not want to come back to it like to When It Grows Dark or Closed for Winter. What was missing here was the breath-taking thrill, uncertainty and fear. Perhaps in the light of a hot summer day the monsters do not seem as scary as they do in the middle of the long and dark Norwegian night.
