Niby potencjał jest, ale jednak oszustwo

Kolejna książka z serii wrocławskich kryminałów utwierdza mnie w przekonaniu, że dziękuję, że już mi wystarczy i czas na coś ambitniejszego. Zwłaszcza, że debiut Aleksandry Śmigielskiej mi się nie podobał, momentami go kartkowałam, a bohaterka nie wydała mi się wiarygodna. Zatem po kolei.

Nieprzekonująca bohaterka

O samej autorce nie dowiemy się zbyt wiele. Jest weterynarzem, jak główna bohaterka książki, i z sukcesami bierze udział w wielu warsztatach pisarskich. Oszustka to pierwsza powieść Śmigielskiej. Jej bohaterka, Marta Rajska jest weterynarzem, matką dwóch córek i żoną Piotra, który prowadzi swoją firmę budowlaną. Jest również kobietą, która starannie ukrywa swoją przeszłość – matkę alkoholiczkę i brata Artura, który wiecznie miał problemy z prawem. Jako młoda dziewczyna uciekła z Wrocławia do Bydgoszczy i tam ułożyła sobie udane życie, którego brat jej ewidentnie zazdrości. Jednak przeszłość puka do jej drzwi w dość brutalny sposób – bohaterka jest świadkiem śmierci swojej matki, którą pod jej domem potrącił samochód. Jest to początek akcji, w której ten sam trup pojawia się gęsto w różnych lokalizacjach i różnym stanie rozkładu, dzieci na swoich obrazkach rysują pobieranie nasienia u psa, Wrocław jest przedstawiony jako paskudne, brudne, patusiarskie miasto, a sama bohaterka okazuje się być zimną i wyrachowaną kobietą, która teoretycznie robi wszystko w celu ochrony swojej rodziny.

Nieprzekonująca fabuła

No właśnie, główna bohaterka w ogóle mnie do siebie nie przekonała, a co za tym idzie, również fabuła nie wydała mi się przekonująca. Sądziłam, że Marta za wszelką cenę chce się odciąć od przeszłości, a w przypadku najmniejszych problemów z prawem będzie szukała pomocy na policji. Ona jednak prowadzi własne śledztwo, z łatwością porzuca pracę i dzieci, by podróżować do Wrocławia i wracać w miejsca, w których dorastała. Pomaga bratu, z którym oprócz więzów krwi nic już jej nie łączy, i to z nim układa ryzykowny plan działania, ale nie dzieli się swoimi problemami z najbliższym jej człowiekiem, mężem Piotrem. Myślę, że w ogóle go nie kocha, choć nie zdaje sobie z tego sprawy. Sama końcówka książki zupełnie mnie rozczarowała, a dramatyczne wybory bohaterki sprawiły, że całkowicie utraciła jakąkolwiek wiarygodność.

Nieprzekonująca książka

Poziom skomplikowania akcji, pobieżne portretowanie zbyt wielu bohaterów, wielość wątków sprawiły, że nie zaangażowałam się w fabułę, nie wciągnęłam się, a część sytuacji była dla mnie tak nudna i przewidywalna, że zaczęłam przelatywać tekst wzrokiem, co mi się naprawdę rzadko zdarza. Być może to przesyt i potrzeba przeczytania czegoś ambitniejszego. Nie polecam i uważam, że szkoda czasu.

There is potential, but it's a fraud

Another book from the series of Wrocław crime stories confirms my belief that I am done, that enough is enough for me and it's time for something more ambitious. Especially since I didn't like Aleksandra Śmigielska's debut, I was skipping through it at times, and the heroine didn't seem credible to me. Let’s have a look.

An unconvincing heroine

We won't learn much about the author herself. She is a veterinarian, like the main character of the book, and she successfully participates in many writing workshops. The Fraudster is Śmigielska's first novel. Its heroine, Marta Rajska, is a veterinarian, mother of two daughters and wife of Piotr, who runs his construction company. She is also a woman who carefully hides her past - her alcoholic mother and her brother Artur, who was always in trouble with the law. As a young girl, she ran away from Wrocław to Bydgoszcz and there she built a successful life, which her brother clearly envies. However, the past knocks on her door in a rather brutal way - the heroine witnesses the death of her mother, who was hit by a car in front of her house. This is the beginning of an action in which the same corpse appears frequently in different locations and in various states of decomposition, children draw semen collection from a dog in their pictures, Wrocław is presented as a nasty, dirty, repulsive city, and the heroine herself turns out to be cold and a calculating woman who theoretically does everything to protect her family.

Unconvincing plot

Well, the main character didn't convince me at all, and therefore the plot didn't seem convincing either. I thought that Marta wanted to distance herself from the past at all costs, and in case of even the slightest problems with the law, she would seek help from the police. However, she conducts her own investigation and easily leaves her job and children to travel to Wrocław and return to the places where she grew up. She helps her brother, with whom she has nothing in common apart from blood ties, and with him she formulates a risky plan of action, but she does not share her problems with the person closest to her, her husband Piotr. I don't think she loves him at all, even though she doesn't realize it. The very end of the book disappointed me completely, and the heroine's dramatic choices made her completely lose any credibility.

An unconvincing book

The level of complexity of the action, the superficial portrayal of too many characters, the multitude of threads meant that I was not involved in the plot, I was not drawn into it, and some of the situations were so boring and predictable to me that I started to skim through the text, which is something that rarely happens to me. Perhaps it's too much and I need to read something more ambitious. I don't recommend it and I think it's a waste of time.
